Welcome to Washington Middle School, home of the Raiders

We are the oldest middle school in Albuquerque still in operation.
Washington Junior High first opened its doors in the sandy flatlands near the Albuquerque Country Club and Huning Highlands Castle neighborhood in 1923.  In 1938 the Works Progress Administration and federal funds aided the school in adding a library and other amenities to the school.

Washington Middle School is a Dual Language and Fine Arts Academy
To follow our 50/50 Dual Language Program, students take Math, Spanish Language Arts, and Social Studies in Spanish and take English Language Arts, Science, and elective course in English. We offer AVID (Advancement via individual determination), Film, Fine Arts, Physical Education, Leadership, Band, Orchestra, Mariachi and Business Tech as our electives. Teachers use Project Based Learning for enriching curricular experiences. We offer many after school activities and clubs as well as a full program of athletics for our students.

We help students at Washington Middle School develop into responsible, thoughtful citizens for life in an increasingly interdependent global society by challenging them to explore, create, make decisions, to actively participate in and be accountable for their learning.

At Washington Middle School students grow intellectually and mature through stimulating activities that develop their problem solving and critical thinking abilities. Physically, students learn to understand and accept the changes in their bodies while assuming responsibility for their own wellbeing. Socially, we provide an environment in which our students can positively interact with peers and adults. Emotionally, students are given opportunities to succeed in both academic and social situations.
